IL Jaycees TOYP Introduction Video for Christopher Schiel

Christopher Schiel is the owner of Schaumburg’s Xtra Mile Running. He opened the store in April of 2018 with a mission to provide people with the tools, knowledge and support to help them achieve their goals.

Before becoming an entrepreneur, he was Campus Director of Admissions for American InterContinental University. In 2017, Chris served as a pacer at a Boston qualifying marathon, helping a runner achieve his time goal after many years of trying.  The joy Chris witnessed that day inspired him to follow his passion of running and helping others. With earning an MBA earlier in the year, he had the confidence to quit his job to complete a business plan and open a running store. His store’s running/youth programs give individuals a comfortable and warming, helpful, engaging community where runners help each other to achieve their goals.

Xtra Mile Running hosts a fall and spring Couch to 5K program for all ages, as well as a summer running program for children, which ends at the Roselle Race to Stop Hunger 5K and food packing event for children in need. The store also hosts an Annual Christmas Run, which includes a food drive to support a local church. In June, the organization partners with the Schaumburg Park District to host Global Running Day at Volkening Lake. Xtra Mile Running also recently was named co-host of the local Run for the Roses 5K, formerly on the CARA Race Circuit and now entering its 26th year.

The company has been recognized by School District 54 for being one of their key partners in 2019 by sponsoring the local Run to Read 5K, sponsoring the Addams 5K and other events. The store has also been nominated as one of the Top 50 Best Running Stores in America.

Christopher earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his Master of Business Administration from American InterContinental University.

Christopher is being recognized in the category of Personal improvement and/or accomplishment. He was nominated by the Schaumburg Jaycees. He lives in Schaumburg with his wife, Christina, and children, Michael and Sophia.
